It all started in a 1968 Airstream.
The locals loved the burritos so much, the owners had to move into a bigger space to accommodate such high demand. Since 2013, Burrito del Sol has been a hot (and spicy) grub spot in Downtown Fort Walton Beach.
Located just off Miracle Strip Parkway, you won’t be able to miss Burrito del Sol’s red stucco exterior and rustic, wrought iron windows. Once you pass through its arched entrance, the restaurant has a laid back cantina atmosphere with plenty of places to sit at high or low-top tables.
If the weather is nice – as it usually is here in Fort Walton Beach – there are also places to dine outside while enjoying the bustle of downtown.
Head up to the front to order, and you’ll find a hand-drawn chalk menu chock-full Mexican food with a Florida twist. With a wide range of tortilla styles from burritos to nachos, you can try something new every time.
Delicious marinated chicken and steak are always a crowd favorite here, but the locals and employees alike will recommend trying the fresh catch fish tacos Baja style with red cabbage, pineapple salsa, Monterey cheese, Baja sauce, cilantro and fresh lime.
For those with a serious appetite after a long day in the sun, Burrito del Sol will offer to make your burrito “fat” for a little extra. You can also add queso or have your burrito pressed to make the tortilla warm and crunchy on the outside.
The freshly made guacamole (extra, but worth it) is a necessary addition to your Burrito del Sol experience. As an added bonus, your meal will come to the table bearing Burrito del Sol’s housemade habanero sauce. Filled with fresh mangoes and peppers, this hot sauce adds a sweet and spicy kick that is sure to complement any dish on the menu.
There are plenty of beers by the bottle and also brews on tap. To truly complete the Burrito del Sol trifecta, have a classic or strawberry frozen margarita with your meal … ahh, so refreshing on a hot summer day.
Burrito del Sol is located at 201 Miracle Strip Pkwy SE B, Fort Walton Beach, FL. For more information or to look at a menu, visit the Burrito del Sol website or call (850) 226-8016.
