That early morning caffeine buzz is an absolute necessity. For the best buzz in Fort Walton Beach, head downtown and visit Maas Coffee Roasters.
Maas Coffee Roasters is the product of Owner Jim Maas, a resident of Cleveland that wanted to come down to Florida and start his own specialty coffee roaster. So, he did exactly that.
Maas is all about the beans and that’s obvious as soon as you walk in — just one whiff is all it takes! The locals file in throughout the day to reload on their Maas beans. It’s not uncommon to walk in on a bustling local conversation between the Maas team and coffee enthusiasts. Sydney, one of the baristas, spoke to us.
“I’ve known some of the people that come in here since they were kids,” she says. “It’s almost like a family environment in here.”
Maas is using all Arabica beans — no cheap stuff here. Sydney talked about how quality is of great importance at Maas.
“We are trying to stay as true to the coffee as possible,” she says.
But that doesn’t mean that Maas is without a good sense of humor. Their most sought after beans are the Jazz or, as the locals say, “Crack Coffee.” We’ll let you draw your own conclusions as to how that name was formed.
Maas will also make you a hot cup of the good stuff to go with your beans.
“Even though we’re mainly selling beans in here, we still have plenty of people that come here for their daily coffee,” says Sydney.
There is always a daily brew, cafe concoctions, teas, Italian sodas and fresh bakery items from which to choose.
